Southwest Status Match (2026)

Southwest Rapid Rewards

Verified October 13, 2026. Program terms change often, so confirm on the official page before you apply.

Short answer

Yes. With elite status on another US-based airline you can register for 120 days of A-List or A-List Preferred, then fly enough to keep it for 12 months. Current A-List members and anyone matched in the last 12 months are excluded. As of October 13, 2026 registration is open through December 30, 2026.

This is an editorial guide to Southwest Rapid Rewards's match policy, not a tracked offer. The offer dates shown come from when we last verified it, not from live tracking.

Southwest status match: what to know

Southwest's status match is effectively a match and a challenge in one. You register with proof of your elite tier on another US airline, receive the matching A-List or A-List Preferred tier for 120 days, and keep it for 12 months if you meet a fast-track target (three round trips or 11,500 tier qualifying points for A-List; six round trips or 23,000 points for A-List Preferred). Southwest has run the match repeatedly in past years. The current registration deadline is December 30, 2026, so check the page for an extension. Southwest also moved to assigned seating in 2026, which changed what A-List and A-List Preferred members get at booking.

Region note: Southwest's match only accepts status from US-based airlines, so UK, Canadian and Australian elites on non-US airlines are generally not eligible.

Southwest Rapid Rewards tiers

For flights from January 27, 2026 A-List members can select a Preferred or Standard seat at booking and an Extra Legroom seat within 48 hours of departure; A-List boarding is in Group 1 for flights from April 30, 2026 (per Southwest's notices as reported).

Which status can you match from?

  • Elite members of other US-based airlines at the level listed on Southwest's status match chart (reported to cover American, Delta, United, Alaska and JetBlue; Spirit and Frontier reportedly do not qualify)
  • Mid-tier elites generally match to A-List and top-tier elites to A-List Preferred; for example United Premier Silver and JetBlue Mosaic 1 map to A-List according to Southwest's chart
  • A separate Southwest Corporate Status Match exists for employees of some companies, with its own chart

How to apply

Step by step for a Southwest status match

  1. 1

Open Southwest's Status Match page and sign in to your Rapid Rewards account.

  2. 2

Select your airline and tier in the chart and upload proof of that status. Southwest verifies it.

  3. 3

    Register before December 30, 2026.

  4. 4

It can take up to 12 days for the promotional status to appear in your account.

  5. 5

Fly enough in the 120-day window to meet the fast-track target: three round trips (six one-way flights) or 11,500 tier qualifying points for A-List; six round trips (12 one-way flights) or 23,000 points for A-List Preferred.

Requirements and limits

  • A Rapid Rewards account and elite status on another US-based airline at a level Southwest's chart lists, with proof.
  • You must not currently hold A-List or A-List Preferred.
  • You cannot enrol if you took part in a Southwest status match or challenge, or received promotional A-List status from a promotion, in the last 12 months.
  • Southwest may review non-listed elite statuses at its discretion.
  • Fast-track flights must be on Southwest. Partner flights earn points, but tier qualifying points only count on Southwest-operated segments.

Tips to get approved

  • Plan the fast-track flights before you register. The 120 days run from registration and cannot be extended.
  • Credit card spending can add to your tier qualifying points: Southwest's 2026 tier page lists 1,500 TQPs per $10,000 on the Chase Southwest Performance Business card. Check which Southwest cards qualify.
  • The Companion Pass needs 135,000 qualifying points or 100 one-way flights in a calendar year, and cardholders with an open Southwest card on the first business day of the year get a 10,000-point boost.
  • A SWABIZ business-booking promotion was reported to grant A-List after two round trips booked between Jul 28, 2026 and Oct 31, 2026, expiring at year-end. Confirm the terms before relying on it.

Southwest status challenge: available
